Projects and Programs Reports: Life JacketsThe Sea Tow Foundation has recently finished their third year of grant funding to provide life jackets to boaters deemed to be at a higher-risk of drowning. These life jackets were made available to boaters through the local Sea Tow captains during towing and marine assistance operations or through life jacket loaner stations set up at marinas and docks. The life jackets were purchased through a grant from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. Over the past three years, over 12,000 life jackets have been provided to recreational boaters. The Sea Tow Foundation reminds you that life jackets should be worn at all times by all children under the age of 13. In addition, if you plan to boat at night, in bad weather, or by yourself, you should wear a life jacket. "However, with comfortable options like inflatable life jackets now on the market," adds Gail Kulp, executive director of the Sea Tow Foundation, "there really is no reason why a boater should not be wearing a life jacket at all times."
