Summer of 2022 Life Jacket Grant Application

If your organization, business or agency is interested in hosting and/or maintaining a Sea Tow Foundation Life Jacket Loaner Station, please read and fill out this entire form. The Life Jacket Loaner Stations will be stocked with life jackets in a variety of sizes available for boaters to borrow free of charge for a day out on the water.

Before completing the application below if you need more information visit the Life Jacket Loaner Program page. Click here to learn how to Create a Successful Life Jacket Loaner Program.

This application will be open from November 1, 2021 through February 1, 2022. All applicants will be notified by March 31, 2022 as to whether they have been selected to receive life jackets.

Please note that the purpose of this grant program is to provide life jackets to the boating public free of charge that can be borrowed and returned to keep them safe on the water. Priority must be to locations with boating as the primary purpose, but life jackets can also be used at those locations for other water activities such as fishing, swimming, etc. If your organization, business or agency requires payment or a membership to access your facility, there must be a plan in place that the life jackets could still be accessed by non-paying or non-members that could benefit from the use of the life jackets.

A limited number of life jacket loaner stand building kits will be available to be shipped and only one can be requested by each organization, business or agency. There is no additional cost for these, but due to the limited supply, you will also be asked if your organization, business or agency can build their own stand. Building plans can be provided upon request. Signage will be available to all new stand locations.

If your organization, business or agency is selected to receive life jackets, you will be required to sign a Terms and Conditions Document with the Sea Tow Foundation agreeing to complete monthly online reports from the time the life jackets are shipped to you through the end of September. These reports will be available online and are accessible by mobile phone, tablet or computer and will include an estimated count of the life jackets borrowed each month along with a photo of the stand. An example of last year’s monthly reporting form is available and a webinar was recorded to explain how to report on the use of the life jackets. The reporting form may change slightly for 2022, but it has not been finalized at this time. Failure to complete these monthly reports will result in your organization’s inability to receive life jackets from the Sea Tow Foundation in future grants.

A) Please read and fill out the entire form. Sections with red asterisks are required to be answered. Incomplete forms will not be saved, and you are unable to log out and log back in to complete the form at a later time.

B) Only one form can be accepted from each person, organization or individual/chapter component during the grant period from November 1, 2021 to February 1, 2022.

C) Incomplete forms will not be accepted or considered. You will receive a confirmation on the screen when the form has been successfully submitted. If you are sent back to the form, you have missed a section that is required to be completed. If you receive an error message, it was not received. Please try again.

D) Applications are due by 11:59 pm (Eastern) on February 1, 2022.

E) Final decisions will be made and announced by March 31, 2022.

F) Due to shipping delays, the life jackets may not be available until mid-way through the summer boating season. The Sea Tow Foundation will keep you updated on the shipping status as it becomes available.

G) This application form is only able to be completed online.

H) If you are selected to receive life jackets, you may receive the following:

  • Life jackets in the following sizes:
    • Infant: For children up to 30 lbs. and includes a head pillow and crotch strap.
    • Child: For children 30-50 lbs. and includes a crotch strap.
    • Youth: For children 50-90 lbs.
    • Adult: For people over 90 lbs.
    • Adult XL: For people over 90 lbs. that need straps that can be made wider.
  • All life jackets are shipped in boxes of six (6) of the same size, so the amount you will receive will be divisible by 6. We can not ship less than 6 of a size.
  • 200 life jacket safety informational flyers to display along with the stand
  • Aluminum sign to place on top of the life jacket loaner station (This is for new loaner stands being built by you or when receiving a life jacket stand building kit.)
  • Press kit to promote the life jacket loaner station
  • Manual for how to run a life jacket loaner program

I) You agree to monitor usage and report back to the Sea Tow Foundation, including photos, on how people are using the Life Jacket Loaner Station each month during the summer boating season and you agree to supply information in a final report to the Sea Tow Foundation in September of 2022. A separate Terms & Conditions document will be sent to all groups that are awarded life jackets to be signed before any shipments are made.

J) Sea Tow Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission it is to promote safe boating practices. Grants to host Life Jacket Loaner Stations are part of a larger grant project funded by the Sport Fish Restoration & Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. A specific number of life jacket loaner stand building kits will be available for request this year. These kits will be shipped in a large box and you will need to assemble the pre-cut pieces to form the stand. Signage will be included for the stand as well as building plans and a manual to help you run the life jacket loaner program successfully. There are limited kits available and not everyone who requests one will be able to be sent one. If your organization is able to build their own stand or work with someone local that can build one for you, building design plans can be provided. Please note that funding is not available to help with the cost of building your own stand.

If you plan to replenish existing loaner stand locations with life jackets, please fill out the following 5 sections. Please note that life jackets ship in boxes that contain 6 of the same size, so please make all entries divisible by 6.

If you are only setting up a new location, you will receive a set number of life jackets for that one stand.
